Virtue

.

My experience of virtue is like a fountain rising from within. The purity of this virtuous stream is in measure with my ability to abide the voice of conscience. In this way I possess a moment by moment appreciation for both the quality and quantity of my own virtue, which feeds and irrigates the constitution of my body and mind, and contributes to a wholistic sense of well being. In this way I can perceive some measure of my own virtue, but only now, and only against the standard of my own honest conscience.

~

I’m becoming suspicious that confidence is more vice than virtue. We often regard those who are sure as courageous, reasoned, and true. But what’s brave about an argument beyond challenge? Where’s reason without doubt? And what’s truth can ever stand wholly apart from error.
