GOING ALONE – Desert grave

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy once told me that if all the bodies scattered across the desert on either side of the highway along Routes 15, 44, 66 and 395 were to suddenly stand up, then the desert would all at once appear as if it were populated everywhere with man-sized cactus. I’m currently averaging two new grave or body discoveries a year during my desert outings; and though I can’t always be sure that what I find is a grave, there’s usually enough evidence to amply prime the imagination pump.

What is the metaphor of “the grapes of wrath”? Obviously biblical, but what is the reference in the Steinbeck novel? Enjoyed the going alone, weather balloons, desert graves, etc. Memento mori. Your loyal follower, Ilona Garrett
