A life of courage, joy and independence.
Life on a turbulent sea
Life has it’s ups and downs and is like a stormy sea. I imagine that each of us is a lone sailor on its vast face, floating on a raft amidst the tumultuous rise and fall of rolling waves. At the top of one swell we can see the horizon beyond us, and feel the bright warm sun on our skin. Life is then full of potential and hope, and riding the crest we feel good about ourselves and our destinies. But as certainly as we have risen to this lofty height our course shall soon lead us down to the wave’s shadowy trough. From here the walls of water seem to be closing in on us, there appears no hope of escape, no future. We seem fated to a destiny devoid of the light we once knew. Why do we forget, at these times, that we are always in motion? As surely as the pendulum slows, stops and retraces its path, so shall we invariably be carried by another wave back to the light. We must find patience at these times and trust in life’s incredible inertia. And when, once again, we are brought skyward from the sea’s hollow, have strength and do not cling to those fleeting moments of brilliance. Enjoy and appreciate them while they last, and then again, when your descent begins, ride your fate with courage, hold fast the rudder of your frail craft, and thrill to the adventure of it all!

The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don’t bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.
