Caterpillar crawl – softypapa

Most (though not all) caterpillar-like creatures are the larval form of insects in the order Lepidoptera which include both butterflies and moths. Caterpillars are the intermediary stage of development between egg and adult. Most caterpillars enjoy a vegetarian diet though a few are voracious hunters of other insects. Caterpillars go through several stages of development before their final metamorphosis into adult butterflies or moths. Being soft and vulnerable caterpillars have adapted many clever tricks to prevent being eaten by birds and other predators. Camouflage, thorns, spines and caustic chemicals along with an unappetizing taste are just a few of the better known tricks of lepidopteron survival.
