This handsome Japanese Mountain Sheep (Nihon Kamoshika) was spotted gingerly making its way through the winding narrow footpaths of a small tea farming village of the high Japan Southern Alps.
Huh - I’ve been doing a few small hikes in Japan and I’ve never heard of Nihon Kamoshika. Do you see these often or was this a once-in-a-lifetime sighting?

Hello Thomas, Thank you for visiting our blog. Kamoshika are not uncommon in the area where we like to explore (Southern Alps section of Shizuoka). I’m not sure though of how common they may be elsewhere in Japan.
